Chapter 8 – Studies

(Northumberland, England, September 1803)

Accordingly, Dr. Strappem answered for the boy by advising "Of course it is alright and, as we can't spend all day on our pleasures, there'll be a time limit of two minutes for each move!" Dr. Strappem would have to return his King to h7, after which Tom would just replay Qh4+ before the previous cycle was repeated. A draw was therefore agreed.

Unfortunately, Tom's expectation that his unexpected brilliancy would save him, at least temporarily, from nudity was quickly dashed.
