Hampton Rhodes Academy opened its doors on September 8 of this year. The students, all boys grades K-8 except for two token females in each classroom, were the victims of strong discipline based on humiliation and a fair share of corporal punishment. They were also doing much better academically than they had been at their prior educational placements. Our team was invited back for a fourth month follow-up interview with students, parents and teachers.
 
When the crew arrived, one couldn’t help but be impressed with the quiet reverie of the campus as boys dressed in pea coats with bare legs exposed to the coldest temperatures of February this area had experienced in years. The giggles and chatter of the kids seemed to indicate they weren’t even aware of the cold.
 
Then there was Jeremy Train. Not only bare legs but below the hem of his coat the tell tale scrotum tag hanging down from his bare genitals. He still had a couple of months to go provided his behavior had been exemplary. What wasn’t immediately apparent was the fact that six other boys on campus had also been tagged since my last visit in October.
 
I approached him to catch up on his predicament.
 
RB: Hi Jeremy.
 
JEREMY: Hi. Do I know you?
 
RB: Yes I’m the reporter who writes about the school. I was there to film the time when you got this. (I reached down and gave a gentle pull on this tag.)

JEREMY: Not much. The nurse said it was because the scalpel was so sharp. But, I think it was because I was scared.
