                               Madeline moves to 11 a.m.

ÒIn an old house in Paris
	that was covered with vines
lived twelve little girls in two straight lines.
         ...the smallest one was Madeline.Ó

The show Madeline, on the Disney channel, will now be seen at 11
a.m. Eastern and Pacific time, 10 a.m. Central time, every week day. I am
really enjoying this show. Where else can a grown man wallow in the
thoughts, desires, and lives of 12 little girls? And you can easily make
comparisons between Miss ClavelÕs 12 little girls, and the girls in the
house of Anne-Marie, in Story of O.

ÒThe girls were at liberty to walk in the garden, to read, draw, play
cards, play solitaire.Ó

         - Story of O, pg. 160.

ÒEach day the girls would make the time, to read or paint or
pantomime, to sew...Ó

         - Madeline (Episode: Madeline and the Show Off).

It is interesting to contrast Story of O and Madeline with, say, a
current ad being run by the Brownies (a Girl Scout organization for little
girls). That ad shows women welding, little girls doing karate, and other
offensive activities. However in Madeline, as in Story of O, there is the
traditional presentation of little girls as females, not as wanna-be males.
The girls are being trained to be neat and proper, yet they are also allowed
to be fun-loving, frivolous little girls. They donÕt go to school. Instead,
every day at half past nine, Miss Clavel takes the girls for a stroll around
Paris. Then, as quoted above, when the girls are not touring the city with
Miss Clavel, they are reading or painting or sewing, very much like Anne-
MarieÕs girls in Story of O.
Watch Madeline -- itÕs the next best thing to having your own harem
of little girls!
