Story Intro

I love post apocalyptic fiction. It's a world where you can do anything and there are no rules.

A week later, and a seemingly endless stretch of road, the girls arrive at an abandoned trailer park just outside of a larg town. It had long since been ransacked, and there was no sign of life anywhere.

"Do we bother?" Bunny asked.

Kaylin didnt' see the point.

"No."

They moved on. As they approached the town, they were surrounded on both sides of the road by what was once two vast corn fields. Now completely dead, Bunny wondered what the dead stocks once were.

"What were those?" Bunny asked.

"Food of some kind." Suki replied.

Arriving in the town, Kaylin is ready for anything with her AR-15 at the ready. Suki also has the MP5 Kaylin passed down to her ready. But there's nothing to be concerned about, there hasn't been anyone in this town in years. A quick survey of the town yielded nothing. Every house, and every building had been stripped of everything. There were, curiously, no skeletons in this town. It's inhabitants must have taken what they could and left for some other place. There was nothing to do but stay the night and then keep going.

The next day, and a few miles down the road, Kaylin stopped and sniffed the air.

"Storm's coming." Kaylin said.

"How can you tell?" Suki asked.

A distant thunder confirms a storm is coming.

Suki is terrified.

"Oh, no!"

No shelter is in sight, but they have no choice but to run to try and find some place to take cover. Further down the road they find a burned down road side gas station, no chance of shelter except for the rusting and decaying remains of a fifties style car. It's trunk had been scorched by the fire, but the windows looked intact and the roof didn't seem to have big holes in it. The storm was coming fast, drops of cold rain water were starting to fall. Kaylin ordered the little ones inside the car with Suki, then began shoving supplies into the only available place, the passenger seat and the space not taken up by Bunny and the little one in the back seat. Suki is concerned.

"What about you?"

Kaylin knows there's no shelter for her tonight.

"We can't lose any of this food, or get the weapons wet."

"We'll make room!"

Kaylin silences Suki by kissing her.

"I'll be fine, you worry about them."

Kaylin finishes shoving supplies into the car, then throws a plastic tarp over the roof of the car. The storm begins it's onslaught, and Kaylin has nowhere to go. The wind must be atleast thirty mile an hour and could easily blow the tarp off the roof of the car. As the downpour begins, Kaylin pulls a hood over her head, then gets onto the roof of the car and uses her weight to hold the tarp down. The storm is brutal, but Kaylin never gives up protecting her family. it's a long and nightmarish night for Kaylin, but the storm finally breaks near morning. Kaylin is soaked, exhausted, and barely able to move, but her mission was accomplished. Her family and their supplies are dry. Although Kaylin was exhausted and dead on her feet, they spent the day travelling and looking for shelter. All they found was an endless forest of dead trees, but along the road they came to a small ancient barn on the side of the road that was falling apart but still intact. What it's intended use was for, and why it remained standing for so long would remain a mystery forever. Suki checked inside and found ancient cobwebs and dust, but it was otherwise surprisingly dry and empty. They moved the supplies inside as another rain storm began. It was light and gentle this time. Suki pulled an ancient rusted wheelbarrow out of the corner and tossed in twigs and branches and used ancient dry hay to start a fire. They ate a very small meal despite still having more food and supplies than they could easily carry. Kaylin struggled to eat, and as soon as she was done Suki covered her and ordered her to sleep. It was an order Kaylin couldn't refuse. Later that evening the little one had snuggled up with Kaylin to help keep her warm. Suki and Bunny were gazing out of an ancient glass window.

"What do you think this place was?" Bunny asked.

"I don't know. It's really old, that's all I know." Suki replied.

Bunny looks back at Kaylin.

"I guess I owe her a lot." Bunny said.

"I think all three of us do."

"I guess I love her."

"I married her."

"She's happier because of you." Bunny said as she turned back to the window to look outside.

"So am I."

Bunny looked out at the dead forest, wondering what it must have been like long ago.

"I wonder what it was like. Was it green?" Bunny asked.

"Yeah, for a while. In spring it would start to get green, then in the fall the leaves would change into all kinds of different colors and fall to the ground. I saw pictures in a book once."

Bunny gazes out, trying to picture what Suki described.

The next morning Kaylin is still exhausted, but she gathers the energy to search the area. Near the old barn are wrecked cars piled up. The skeletal remains of the drivers and passengers are entombed in their rusting coffins. Searching the wrecks yielded many relics. Every skeleton had in it's posession a useless smart phone. Every time Kaylin found one she would toss it aside as worthless junk, having no idea those devices once had access to the sum of Human knowledge and the ability to communicate with others over vast distances. Searching glove compartments always yielded some small treasure. Lighters, matches, paper to burn, sometimes food. She spent all day searching the wrecks and plundering their resources. The fact that none of this had been looted before told Kaylin no one had been on this road in many years and that it should be safe to continue travelling it.

Back at the barn Suki and the girls were doing an inventory of their supplies. When they finished, Suki did the math.

"About five months worth. With extreme rationing." Suki said.

"Is it enough to make it South?" Bunny asked.

"I don't know. It all depends on how bad the weather is and how many times we have to hold up somewhere."

"Like now?"

"Like now."

Kaylin returned with her supplies. Suki greeted her with a warm hug and kiss.

"Find anything good?" Suki asked.

"Some food, bottled water, lighters, matches, some clothes, and dry paper we can use. Basic stuff."

"Basic stuff is better than no stuff."

Suki takes the supplies as Kaylin goes to sit by the barrel fire. She pulls out bottled water, granola bars, some baby food and other miscelanneous food items first. She hands them to the little one who neatly sorts them with their food supplies. Bunny goes to Kaylin.

"You look bad." Bunny said as she nuzzled into Kaylin.

"I feel bad." Kaylin said as she rested her cheek on Bunny's head.

In the pitch black night a gentle snow was falling. In the barn a small fire burns in the wheelbarrow, and the two children lay warmly snuggling each other. Kaylin tried, but couldn't sleep. Suki was closely snuggled next to her, and Kaylin had an arm around her wife. Kaylin nuzzled her face into Suki's hair and felt it's softness. There was still a hint of shampoo smell even though they hadn't had the chance to bath in some time. Suki woke and noticed Kaylin caressing her breast. No words need be said between them. Kaylin rolls Suki onto her stomach, then reaches under the blanket covering them and pushes Suki's pants down to her ankles, then her underwear. Kaylin unzips her pants and pushes them down to her ankles. Kaylin grabs Suki's shoulder with one hand, using it for leverage, and uses her other hand to cover her wife's mouth since she has a tendancy to make loud whimpers during sex. Kaylin presses her pussy against Suki's and begins thrusting into her much as a man would when having anal sex with a woman. The sensation feels wonderful for both of them, and it takes only a few thrusts by Kaylin before they both have an intense orgasm. Kaylin removes her hand from her wifes mouth, and it's not long before Suki passes out in her wifes embrace. Kaylin doesn't bother to put their pants and underwear back, she too passes out with her wife in her arms.

The next morning Suki was gathering up snow to melt for water. Kaylin walks up to her, and says something very strange.

"I don't think we should have a baby."

Suki is puzzled.

"Ok, let's not have a baby."

"I mean, I would want to have one with you, but we can barely feed the four of us."

Suki can't help but laugh.

"You and I can never have a baby together."

Kaylin doesn't understand.

"Isn't what we did last night part of how babies are made?"

"For a boy and a girl, not for two girls."

"But I saw in some of those moving picture shows..."

"Oh, honey, I'm sorry but that's not how it works for us. We can't get each other pregnant."

"Oh. Ok."

Suki comforts her.

"But we would make a perfect baby together if we could."

"I'm not that smart about these things."

"Maybe not, but you're smart in all the ways that keep us alive. And in times like these, that's a lot more important."

Suki kisses her wife on the cheek.

"We would make a perfect baby." Suki said.

Kaylin smiles at her wife, and they share a kiss.

To be continued.
