Molasses Candy, Part One: Little Bird

by A Little Birdie

The season of Autumn brought with it some pleasing thoughts: Leaf piles, warm cider, delightful food...

The chill autumn brough was usually one of the things in a list of cons concerning the season, but a little kitsune sitting high in a tree didn't mind one bit.

She was tiny, even for her age of eight years. Aside from a pair of fox-like ears and a set of three tails she looked to be an ordinary girl. Her hair was long and brown, framing a face that held two darling hazel eyes and a smile that could melt the coldest of hearts.

Her brownish-green orbs were locked onto the activties of a high school student, around nine years older than her.

Her target was a tall, slim girl. Her long black hair was held back by a pink ribbon that matched the pink trim on her uniform.

The little kitsune would often daydream about having romantic dates and such with her. Lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice when her target opened the window in front of her.

"Well, hello there. You're not a little bird, what are you doing up a tree?"

Her voice was soft and gentle, with a resonance that was hard to ignore. The kitsune's voice was less than articulate when she responded.

"I-I, er... uhm, I..."

The girl at the window couldn't help but smile and giggle. This set the kitsune's heart aflutter and a dusty pink came to her cheeks.

"You're so cute~ My name is Mina, what's yours?"

The teenaged girl patiently waited for her answer, her sea-blue eyes quietly apprasing the tiny fox-girl.

The kitsune in question was inwardly panicking. For as long as she could remember, she'd been on her own. She had no name to speak of and tried to think of one.

"Autumn, my name is Autumn."
