Meta - Prologue

by Tritium

Warning: I may post this story in a different order than it would appear in a book, however, unlike my previous work; the names will clearly indicate the order in which you should read it.

Brook played Pac-Man on Google's homepage; she had opened her browser to do... something... but found that the Google had replaced the logo with a playable version of iconic 80's game; it was apparently an anniversary. She had been playing for hours. She had also been ignoring Sam.

"Babe?" Brook met Sam's inquiry with an incoherent mumble. "Babe?" Sam waited another moment before she got annoyed. "BROOK!?"

"What?!" Brook jumped away from the keyboard. She was not angry, or frustrated, but startled.

"I wrote a story, I want you to read it." Sam grinned impishly at Brook, as she offered the stack of papers.

"Read it to me." Brook clicked away from the Google home page, going to an old standby in Yahoo! games.

"Are your eyes broken or something?"

"I'm playing games... Come on, I can multitask."

Sam rolled her eyes. Her voice took on a whimsical characteristic as she began to read her prose aloud. "Once upon a time..."

"Ok stop. Seriously? You're starting with once upon a time?"

"It's fantasy, a fairy tale. That's how they start. Granted it's smut..."

"That's a shocker..."

"You are the most supportive fiancé in the world, you know that?"

"Yup."

"Do you want to hear my story or not." Sam pouted, but it was of little effect as Brook was still looking at her computer, playing cheesy flash games.

"I never said I did or didn't."

"I suppose you would be paying more attention if it started out 'long ago in a galaxy far, far away' wouldn't it?" Sam sassed at her lover.

"Probably."

"Don't make me play the D/s card..." Sam threatened her lover. Granted it was a threat of a good time, but a threat nonetheless.

Brook rolled her eyes, and moved to the couch, away from the computer. "You have my attention, Sam."

Sam moved to the couch, sitting with her back to the arm, her legs were open, inviting Brook to lie against her; it was an invitation that was accepted. Sam stroked brooks hair softly, and moved her papers into her own line of sight.

"As I was saying... Once upon a time on the island of R'lyeh..." Brook giggled at that as Sam continued. "And there, lived King Philips and his two granddaughters..."

"...Brook and Sam!" Brook interrupted with sarcastic enthusiasm.

"I'm not THAT vain." The truth was, she was indeed that vain, and was thinking very hard on the spot for two names she could use in their place. "Their names are Selene and Sonja."

"Try again, this time think of something other than Underworld."

"But Kate Beckinsale is so hot..."

"Try again..." Brook was starting to enjoy fucking with Sam.

"Sky and Blair?"

"Why not."

"...His two granddaughters, Sky and Blair. His castle housed wonders that would make the Julio-Claudians blush." Brook kept quiet, but did snicker to herself, as Sam continued. "The king was very old and growing ill with age, leaving young the princesses, the only remaining living royalty, as the acting monarchs of the kingdom."

"Sweet, I get to be a princess and a tyrant."

"Who said tyrant, and it's Blair, not you." Sam cleared her throat. "The princesses were celebrating their grandfathers one hundredth birthday, without him present, in the great hall of the castle, when a knight barged in, and yelled 'The kingdom is under attack! The kingdom is under attack!', and fell to his knees, panting. The sizable gathering of nobles was a gasp! The island had not been attacked in ten generations. When the knight caught his breath, he described hundreds of warships on the horizon, with sails baring the mark of a stylized lowercase letter 'T'..."

"Ok, stop. We should just skip to the part when the girls host an orgy to bring forth the squid headed elder god to defend the island..."

"How the hell did you know...?"

"You wrote a fantasy fairytale, which takes place on Cthulhu's island, staring us, with Christians about to attack... I got that before you finished reading the first paragraph."

"It's just the first chapter..." Sam pouted, and then got defensive. "You write one, then."

"Sure."

Sam rolled her eyes. "That was supposed to evoke a sympathetic apology, and begging to continue the story."

"Was it? Well... ok, but, can you make it a little less obviously a Call of Cthulhu prequel?"

"Fine, fine. But you have to keep technobabble out of yours, and it's about us. Your main characters names have to be 'Sam' and 'Brook'."

"Deal."
