Donna, Part 1

by Utopian

Donna sat alone in the living room, wondering where it all went wrong. Here she was at 28, mother to a 2 year old daughter who had finally settled to sleep.

The TV was on but Donna paid no attention to the canned laughter emanating from the sitcom audience. She didn't feel like laughing and she was too exhausted to cry. She'd done a lot of the latter during the last 3 months. Her husband had confessed to multiple infidelities during their 5 years together. She never saw it coming.

"Life goes on" she said out loud. That's what Nicole had said to her. Nicole, the sweet little 13 year old next door neighbour who'd offered to babysit Keira. Nicole was a natural and it didn't take long for Keira to bond with her. Donna liked having her around and always seemed to miss her after she'd left. They were developing a bond too. Nicole confided in her about her growing pains, rows with her parents and not fitting in at school. Donna had reassured her with tales from her own childhood. Nicole was relieved to find someone who, even though she was an adult, totally empathised with her. Donna was her best friend.

Nicole had said so herself.

Donna had opened up to Nicole about her own problems. The young girl had listened attentively and shed a tear with her. They also shared a hug. That had felt good. The warmth of the teenage girl's svelte young body against her own, their chests heaving in unison with every breath. Relief, closeness and intimacy all in that one wonderful moment.

The doorbell interrupted Donna's reverie. She walked to the front door with purpose, ready to send whoever it was packing. She swung the door open only to be greeted by the sight of Nicole's mother.

"Hi Donna. Sorry to drop this on you at such short notice. My sister's had a miscarriage. I have to go up to Scotland to be with her. Can you keep eye on Nicole please?"

"Are you leaving right now?" asked Donna just as she cast her eyes on the 2-wheel suitcase. "Where's Nicole?"

"Yes, I'm leaving right now. Nicole's on her way over with her overnight bag. Hope it's okay. I'll ring when I get there. Sorry and thanks. Bye!"

Donna waved her off as Nicole walked up the front path.

"You'd better come in."

As Nicole walked past her, Donna caught the aroma of a freshly bathed adolescent body. This reminded Donna that she herself needed her nightly soak.

"Okay. You know where everything is. Make yourself at home. I'm going up for a bath."

"Enjoy!" replied the teenager flashing a smile.

Donna lay back in the nice warm bath as she allowed the water to soak in her troubles. She felt inwardly contented; Nicole was here. Sweet young Nicole. She thought again about their embrace, visualizing the moment, not realizing that she was absentmindedly rubbing her nipples in the process.
